Our experience
Buying and preparing hair since the early 1920s
Based in Banbury, Oxfordshire, Banbury Postiche is the United Kingdom’s longest-established raw hair merchant, buying and selling hair for use in wigs since the early 1920s.
Today, we remain one of the UK’s only companies preparing raw hair into colour-matched (pattern matched) hair hanks for use in wigs, hair extensions and test swatches used by cosmetic research laboratories around the world.
We buy hair
Before you send us your hair
Quality, length and preparation are important. Please follow these three requirements before sending your hair to us.
01 / LENGTH
At least 14 inches long
Hair must measure 14 inches (approximately 35.6 cm) or more in length.
02 / CONDITION
Good-quality hair
Hair must be of suitable quality and must not be over-treated or tangled.
03 / PREPARATION
Tie securely before cutting
Tie the hair into a ponytail at the nape of the neck before cutting, keeping all root ends together. For very thick hair, use more than one ponytail.
Payment, donations & how hair is used
We pay by the ounce for suitable hair, with longer hair fetching higher prices.
We welcome donations of suitable hair if you do not require payment.
We are unable to donate the sale price to charities on a seller’s behalf because of tax implications.
We supply hair for wigs, including those worn by people with long-term hair loss conditions such as alopecia.
Our real hair wigs are handmade, take approximately 12 weeks to produce and incorporate hair from several people.
Hair that cannot be used for wig making will be returned to the sender with a note explaining why it cannot be accepted.

Pattern matched hair is a tailored product.
We do not accept change-of-mind returns on pattern matched hair products. This does not affect your statutory rights.
